Cervically, a tooth features enamel that is 0.3-0.5mm in thickness. Hence when a lesion is 1mm or deeper, it is considered protective to restore these areas with a minimally invasive technique. If old crown margins are also stained or ditched, the proper protocol of bonding to both silicate glass as well as enamel/dentin must be considered.
