(Afternoon tea pics 1651.3: Kuraray Majesty ES-2 Premium | Dehydration)
Rehydration coming in CLUTCH at the reassessment.
Dehydration can occur within minutes, changing the reflective property of enamel by dropping the refractive index through the loss of water. The difference between the value of the treated tooth on the penultimate and last slide is remarkable.
“After 30 min of dehydration, all the tested teeth were above the perceptibility threshold (ΔE00 = 0.8),”
Hatırlı H, Karaarslan EŞ, Yaşa B, Kılıç E, Yaylacı A. Clinical effects of dehydration on tooth color: How much and how long? J Esthet Restor Dent. 2021 Mar;33(2):364-370. doi: 10.1111/jerd.12612. Epub 2020 Jun 22. PMID: 32573090.
This case was challenging from a self-control standpoint as it was hard to stick to your guns when layering composite with the value of the contralateral tooth running away with the water fairies. Still not a perfect result, but we are definitely close. The lower anteriors show the “normal” value/chroma/hue of the teeth, and is my normal post-appointment reference to ensure I am close to the mark. *ohsh*t moment avoided.
