Hypomineralization fissure sealants are not always successful. If there is marginal leakage, often the recurrent decay is able to track aggressively through the tooth, and there is nothing the patient can do about it, as they remain diligent in brushing and flossing. It is our responsibility to recognize when there is marginal failure and mitigate any risk by way of placing new bonded restorations under isolation whenever possible.
